Teen, 19, dies of heart attack caused by stress and anxiety.
The polytechnic student suffered extremely high blood pressure as a result of worrying about her school assignments.
Ms. Kelly Latimer was a highly involved student who worked part-time to support herself, despite coming from a well-off family. Described as a perfectionist by her family and friends, Kelly had been placing pressure on herself to ensure her projects were completed to her expectations.
Her anxiety attacks resulted in a loss of appetite and inability to sleep normally. The undue stress on her body resulted in it seizing up in a heart attack.
This case is one of a many that is becoming an increasing phenomenon amongst teenagers in this fast paced environment.
Family members and friends should be alert for any symptoms such as loss of appetite, depression or insomnia. These could be signs that someone close is suffering from extreme stress and help should be sought immediately.
